Reminder: Snow Make-up Day Announced: May 31 will be a full school day
Lake Washington School District has finalized plans to make up for the one day missed due to the January 3, 2022 snow day. May 31 was built-in as a snow make up day, meaning that if we had snow days this school year, we would make them up by changing this day from a non-student day to a regular school day.
The 2021-22 calendar has been modified to reflect this change:
- Tuesday, May 31: change from a non-school day to a full day for students

Building on Success
Carson Elementary addition update
The project at Rachel Carson Elementary that will add a four-classroom addition is moving along. As growth continues on the Sammamish Plateau, Lake Washington School District began construction last summer on the addition at Carson Elementary. The steel structure and roof has been completed and the exterior framing and sheathing is nearing completion. As part of the geothermal system at Carson, a radiant flooring system was installed, and concrete floor slabs were poured earlier this month.
In April 2019, voters approved a capital construction levy to provide classroom space for 1,052 students. Carson’s new classroom addition will open in fall 2022. Classroom additions at three other elementary schools funded by the levy opened in the fall of 2021 and the classroom addition and commons expansion at Lake Washington High School opened in fall 2020. LWHS auxiliary gym opened in Fall 2021 and core spaces for the three other elementary schools are planned to open this Fall 2022. Carson’s core expansion is currently in the design phase with construction and completion expected in 2023.
