Update: Grab and go meals and delivery changes - starting November 6

Student Meals

Lake Washington School District is offering free meals to all children ages 1-18. Please visit the website for more information: https://www.lwsd.org/covid-19/grab-go-student-meals

Based on feedback from families and staff, changes are being made to our meal distribution so that accessing meals is more convenient. Beginning on Friday, November 6, Nutrition Services will switch from a daily meal pickup to a twice per week pickup. Multiple days' worth of meals will be distributed on Fridays and Tuesdays each week. The pickup times and locations will remain the same. Friday will include meals for: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (4 days). Tuesday will include meals for: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (3 days). These changes will reduce the need to pick up meals each day. For ordering meals and additional information, please visit the website: https://www.lwsd.org/fall-2020/grab-go-student-meals. These changes will not impact meal service to in-person childcare or preschool sites.

The menu is available here.

The Friday form will be open from Friday at 2:00 p.m. until the following Thursday at 12:00 p.m. The Tuesday order form will be available from Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. until the following Monday at 12:00 p.m.

For more information, or to place an order, visit: https://www.lwsd.org/covid-19/grab-go-student-meals

Reminder: Child care space still available

Child Care

Space is still available for families and staff who need child care. The district has worked with community partners, YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs of King County to provide emergency child care for students in grades K-5. In addition, our district extended day program will provide care at select sites. Each provider will have multiple locations to choose from.

These childcare services provide emergency or critical support for families that cannot otherwise be with their children during the day due to work responsibilities outside of the home.

Visit the LWSD website for more information.

Lake Washington Schools Foundation - LWSF

Lake Washington Schools Foundation (LWSF) is a non-profit organization that has been partnering for 15 years with Lake Washington School District to improve the education of every student in the district. LWSF supports students and families with programs like Pantry Packs, Balance in Mind, LINKS Mentoring, Find Your Fit and Reach for Success Classroom Grants.

Reminder: LWSD playgrounds now open to public

LWSD Playgrounds Open

All LWSD playgrounds are now open to the public during evenings and weekends. This is in accordance with city, county and state guidance. Playgrounds will be closed to the public during the school day from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Just a reminder that large, organized activities are not allowed. Play is limited to groups of 5 or fewer. Please wear a face covering and keep 6 feet apart. Hands should be washed after play. Please note that some schools have childcare on site until 6:00 p.m. so play structures may be in use until that time.

We will update our communities as more of our facilities open to the public.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to slow the transmission of COVID-19.

Building on Success

Building on Success is Lake Washington School District's long-term plan to reduce overcrowding, accommodate growing enrollment, and continue to provide quality learning environments and experiences for our students.

Auxiliary gymnasium at LWHS begins to take shape

LWHS Auxiliary Gym

Concrete was poured in October for the foundation of the new auxiliary gymnasium at Lake Washington High School. The gymnasium will provide additional capacity for physical education (PE) programming athletics, and community programs. The expansion will also provide greater seating capacity for the student body to gather during assemblies. Structural steel installation is scheduled for December and the new auxiliary gymnasium will open in fall 2021. As part of the project, the current locker room will be expanded to accommodate a growing student body and athletic activities. This expansion is scheduled to be completed by December 2020.

Learn more about the district’s long-term plan to continue to build schools and to provide quality learning environments and experiences at www.lwsd.org/BuildingOnSuccess.

Student & Staff Success

LWSD recognizes Indigenous People’s Day

Indigenous People's Day

October 12 was Indigenous People’s Day. Staff and students in the Eastside Native American Education Program (ENAEP) honored the first inhabitants in the United States by acknowledging and commemorating their contributions, history and culture.

ENAEP students and families met virtually to recognize the observance. A few students came dressed in their traditional clothing and participated in an acrylic paint class and a beading class. Students were taught the history of eagles, a symbol for great strength, leadership and vision. They also learned about the regalia, which is what Native American dancers wear during traditional dances like a powwow. Learn more about this on the district website

Reminder: Just for fun
