Sustainability Advisory Committee

The Sustainability Advisory Committee will explore the progress that LWSD is making in relation to the four focus areas of its sustainability policy:

1. Reduce and/or mitigate the environmental impact of District operations,
2. Enhance the resiliency of the District towards future environmental impacts,  
3. Prepare students to graduate ready for a future where they are equipped to understand and address the complex and challenging interrelationships between humans and the environment, and
4. Equip staff to appropriately support District efforts related to this policy. 

The committee will discuss recommendations and considerations for ongoing improvement related to sustainable practices. 

In 2024, LWSD adopted Operational Expectation Policy 9: Sustainability to further focus the district’s efforts to ensure sustainable practices are implemented across the district, reduce the impact of district operations, prepare the district to address impacts from climate change, and prepare students for a more sustainable future.

This fall, the district hired a sustainability and resource conservation manager to assist in coordinating these efforts and this advisory committee will further assist and guide the district in assessing courses of action moving forward.
