Long-Term Facilities Task Force (2014-15)

The Long-Term Facilities Planning Task Force began work in December 2014 to:

  • Learn about Lake Washington School District’s work to date on long-term facilities planning.
  • Collaborate with the district to recommend a long-term facilities strategy, which incorporates community issues and needs, to the School Board
  • Provide a forum for the community to give meaningful input on the Task Force and Working Sub-Committee’s work.
  • Provide guidance to the Working Sub-Committee on long-term facilities priorities, planning packages and evaluation criteria.

This group consisted of 63 parent, community, business, senior citizen, staff and student representatives. They spent nearly a year studying, analyzing, and making recommendations concerning the district's long-term facilities needs.

The process included multiple opportunities for public input into potential strategies and policies to address the district's challenges of a classroom space shortfall and of aging facilities.

The Task Force presented its report to the District's Board of Directors at its November 9, 2015, meeting. The Board voted to accept the report's recommendations at its November 23, 2015, meeting.

The projects recommended by the Task Force became the basis for a planned set of bond measures. Those measures will raise funding through a series of measures through 2026. The projects recommended by the Task Force are expected to provide space for student enrollment expected through 2030. The first planned bond measure passed in April 2016. More information on those projects can be found on the Building on Success page.
