Equity Team members continued to discuss LWSD equity efforts that are underway. Dr. Pierce and Dr. Holmen shared that the district will be posting a new position for a Director Opportunity, Equity and Inclusion position to help lead and facilitate the equity efforts. This position is now open and posted on the district’s employment page. In addition, the plans for August professional development time focused on equity were shared. Equity Team member and teacher Michael Finley shared a letter to the Equity Team written by a group of racially diverse educators. The letter indicated everyone’s high interest in the success of school equity teams, and suggested steps to support the successful implementation of school-based equity teams. Equity Team members worked in small table groups using a “serial testimony” protocol to share their reflections on this year’s work of the Equity Team. Each member was given a chance to share: What has happened this year to build trust in this committee? What more needs to be done to build trust? What would we need to do as a group to ensure that youth voice can be heard and valued in this space? This was an opportunity to both look back on what has been accomplished during the 2017-18 school year by the Equity Team and what can be done moving forward in the 2018-19 school year.

Draft Equity Action Plan - School Equity Teams
- February 12, 2018
Building on the work from the January Equity Team meeting, district staff took the feedback gathered from the District Equity Team and developed equity-focused goals for each department. The Equity Team worked in table groups to discuss the goals of each department and then prioritized what they felt to be the highest priority areas for the district. The prioritization of goals by the Equity Team will be used to help inform the development of a District Equity Action Plan. This process/timeline aligns with the district’s annual strategic planning/budgeting cycle, so priority work areas, and resources needed to accomplish the work can be identified.
