Committees & Workgroups

The district has a number of committees and workgroups that engage community members in providing feedback to the district in several important areas. These groups provide input on major issues or decisions facing the district.

This year LWSD will have several advisory committees and workgroups during the 2023-24 school year. Workgroups will include parents, students, community members, seniors, members of the business community, PTA members and staff. The commitment varies depending on the group. Most meetings will occur on Thursday evenings at least once per month. The application to express interest in serving on a committee closed on September 14.

Strategic Plan - Academic Excellence

To provide recommendations for the development of an updated strategic plan. This workgroup will work to identify skills, knowledge, dispositions, and experiences that every student should acquire during their time in our district. The committee's contributions will be critical in creating an actionable strategic plan that aligns with both immediate needs and long-term aspirations through a redefined profile of a graduate. This is a one-year commitment.

Budget Advisory

The Budget Advisory Committee will make recommendations to the Superintendent on the 2024-25 LWSD budget as LWSD works to bring expenditures in alignment with revenues. Recommendations from this committee will be informed by financial and other information from the district regarding business matters. This committee will explore and evaluate issues and needs of the district relative to fiscal affairs. They will learn more about both the short-term and long-term financial plans of the district. This is a multi-year commitment.

Facility Advisory

The Facility Advisory Committee will make recommendations for future facility planning, informed by enrollment trends, community expectations and district programs. The goal of the committee’s strategy is to align with the District’s strategic plan and make recommendations to accommodate our changing enrollment landscape and continue to provide quality learning environments. The Superintendent and School Board consider these recommendations as it plans for future ballot measures to fund construction. This is a multi-year commitment.

Inclusion Advisory

The Inclusion Advisory Committee will explore the progress that students, families, and school staff are experiencing with efforts to make LWSD schools more inclusive for students, particularly those with special needs. The committee will discuss recommendations and considerations for future efforts to support continued improvement related to inclusionary practices. This is a multi-year commitment.

High School Day Evaluation

The High School Day Evaluation Committee will work to better understand the full impact of the 7-period high school day. This committee will include students, staff and community members. Their role will be to collect and analyze stakeholder feedback and course registration data to understand the costs and benefits of the 7-period day. They will evaluate the impact of the additional period on student well-being. The committee will create a report and recommendation that considers both the educational and financial implications of moving forward. This is a multi-year commitment.

K-8 Highly Capable Program Review

The K-8 Highly Capable Program Review Committee will analyze and evaluate the current practices, challenges, and opportunities in LWSD’s K-8 Highly Capable Program. They will also engage in learning and research to understand elements of high-quality Highly Capable programs and research-based practices. They will also engage in rigorous, respectful dialogue with stakeholders and communicate regularly about their work. After engaging in this learning and evaluation, the Committee will discuss recommendations and consideration for any potential systemic changes to our current programs that could improve program policies, practices, eligibility, design and equitable practices. This is a one-year commitment.
