Lake Washington School District has grown by an average 700 students per year for the last ten years. That's equivalent to a large elementary school every year. The proposed February 13 bond would remodel or replace and enlarge Alcott Elementary School. Alcott was originally built to accommodate 500 students. Today, 850 students are attending. Meeting rooms have been converted into shared teaching spaces and two teachers do not have their own classrooms. The school utilizes 12 portables and students eat lunch in their classrooms because there is no cafeteria.
