The Director of Accelerated Programs provides leadership for the development and implementation of accelerated learning programs and services including: Early Entrance Kindergarten, Highly Capable, Honors, Advanced Placement and College in the High School. Ms. Arnone collaborates with district leaders, school principals and teams to ensure that services and programs increase student access and engagement, close achievement and opportunity gaps and support student learning and success. She provides oversight of established district processes and policies pertaining to choice schools, and provides leadership and technical assistance in the request for proposal (RFP) process. She collaborates with district and school leaders in the identification, development, and implementation of innovative programs in alignment with district policy and oversees district summer school.

Nyla Fritz | Director of Secondary Teaching & Learning & CTE

Ms. Fritz provides leadership for the district’s adoption and implementation of standards-based teaching and assessment for grades 6-12. She oversees the implementation of state student learning standards and the adoption, development, integration and implementation of curriculum aligned to standards for grades 6-12. Ms. Fritz ensures staff participation, parent involvement, and community engagement in the processes pertaining to the adoption of instructional materials that increase student access and engagement, close achievement and opportunity gaps, and support student learning and success. In addition, Ms. Fritz provides leadership to ensure that every student has access to rigorous and relevant career-connected learning that prepares students for post-secondary success and access to high-skill, high-wage and in-demand jobs. Ms. Fritz assumes responsibility for developing relationships with community, business, and higher education partners to collaborate with the district in developing and implementing offerings that increase student access and engagement, close opportunity gaps, and increase student learning and success. The director provides oversight of the High School and Beyond Plan and school-based Career Centers and Specialists, Career and Technical Education (CTE) program development and compliance, and the Washington Network for Innovative Careers (WANIC) Skill Center, for which Lake Washington serves as host district. She also oversees technology integration to support teaching and learning for grades 6-12 and manages textbook inventory processes.

Kelly Pease | Director of K-5 Teaching & Learning Services

Ms. Pease leads the development of the K-5 student learning experience. She supports efforts to ensure academic success for every student in collaboration with district leaders, school principals, and educators to implement state student learning standards through multi-tiered instruction and supports for all students. She oversees the adoption, development, integration and implementation of curriculum aligned to standards for grades K-5. She works with district leadership and building principals to ensure student access and engagement and to support communication with caregivers about student success through the development and implementation of K-5 assessing and reporting practices.

Ms. Pease provides leadership and oversight for K-12 summer programs including: Elementary Summer Literacy Academy, Core Academics, Bridge Academy, Accelerated Mathematics and Credit Recovery.

Ms. Pease manages district and school compliance with state and federal programs including the Learning Assistance Program (LAP) and Title I, Part A.

Julián Cortés | Director of Multilingual Learning

Mr. Cortés provides leadership to ensure success for students receiving multilingual learner services through the Multilingual Learner (ML) program, Transitional Bilingual Instruction Program (TBIP) and Dual Language program. These programs are designed to help students acquire English language proficiency. He ensures that English learners are appropriately identified and receive services that best fit their individual educational needs. Mr. Cortés also provides leadership for the Learning Acceleration (Safety Net) and Credit Recovery program at the secondary level (grades 6-12). He supports the efforts of the multilingual and categorical programs with a focus on equitable practices that center the needs of students at the core of services. Mr. Cortés collaborates with district leaders, building administrators and multilingual teachers to implement instruction and support with the goal of increasing student access to grade-level standards in the general education setting. Mr. Cortés also assumes responsibility for district and school compliance with Title III of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.

Emily Young | Director of Professional Learning

Ms. Young provides leadership for the development and implementation of professional learning systems for both certificated and classified staff. She collaborates with district leaders, school principals and teams to develop professional learning for staff focused on increasing student access and engagement, closing achievement and opportunity gaps, supporting student learning and success, and enhancing staff productivity and efficacy. Ms. Young collaborates with the Human Resources department to assist with systems and processes to ensure appropriate onboarding, orientation, and training for new employees. She assumes responsibility for the district’s New Teacher Support Program, Professional Learning Coach program, manages student teacher placement processes, and develops relationships with university and community partners to support staff learning.

Forrest Baker | Executive Director of Technology Services

Mr. Baker provides overall leadership for the success of the district’s technology operations, ensuring robust and reliable infrastructure to support student learning and productivity of district staff. He oversees the capital technology levy which funds staff and student technology, classroom equipment, instructional software, business and building systems, third-party managed services, and professional development. His team provides customer support to staff, students and parents. Mr. Baker also oversees teams that run data center and network, voice systems, Office 365 and Azure, application provisioning, software automation and computer imaging, equipment acquisition, deployment and maintenance, and Microsoft Teams.
