Superintendent Message - December 2020

Dr. Jon Holmen

As the year 2020 draws to a close, I want to take some time to thank our entire Lake Washington School District community for the way we have come together to support our students, staff, families and schools over the course of this unprecedented year.

We are grateful to partner with our families, PTSA members, community organizations and city leaders. We are grateful to our community members and voters for supporting our schools and students. And we are grateful to our students for the hard work they have done to be active participants, even in learning environments that are significantly different than typical.

2020 has been a year that no one could have anticipated for our schools, our community, our country and our world. In weeks, we rethought hundreds of years of formal education and put together a plan for our students to learn remotely. While it has not been perfect, I have appreciated the grace shown by our students, staff and families as we work to build a new system, and continuously work to improve the system to make it more successful for all students.

December is traditionally a month when our schools host a variety of clothing, food and toy drives to benefit families in need in our community. COVID-related safety precautions have made these drives more challenging, but many of our students, staff and community members have still stepped up to support students and families in need in our communities.

I hope that each of you has a wonderful holiday season and Winter Break. We look forward to returning from break on Monday, January 4, 2021.

Thank you,
Jon

Dr. Jon Holmen, Superintendent
