Community Engagement & Communication With the Board

The Lake Washington School District Board of Directors values meaningful engagement with students, families, staff and the broader community.

Board visit in classroom

Community input is an essential part of effective governance and helps the Board understand perspectives, identify priorities and evaluate the impact of district policies and decisions.

The Board is committed to maintaining open, respectful and transparent communication with the public. Input from the community informs the Board’s work at the policy level, particularly in defining student outcomes, monitoring district performance, and setting expectations for how the district serves its students and families.

The Board also recognizes the importance of clear roles and established processes. While Board members welcome hearing from community members, concerns related to individual students, classrooms, or school operations are best addressed through established school and district procedures. These processes help ensure timely responses, fairness and appropriate resolution at the level closest to the concern.

Alcott groundbreaking

Community engagement, combined with clear processes and accountability, supports the Board’s commitment to strong governance and continuous improvement across the district.
