Academic Success

We believe that every student can learn and achieve at high levels, and it is our responsibility to help each student learn, grow and be challenged. Our commitment to success for every student is rooted in the ideals of opportunity, equity and inclusion.
During the 2023-24 school year, LWSD continued to focus on academic recovery and social-emotional learning for our students.
Some of the efforts for 2023-24 around Academic Success to support students included:
- Completed the process for the adoption of the K-5 social studies curriculum. This included the addition of the “Since Time Immemorial” program.
- Completed curriculum adoption of new secondary Social Studies instructional resources, including the “Since Time Immemorial” program for middle school and high school students, in partnership with local tribes.
- Provided all preschool teachers with Blue Bots and computer science materials/training.
- Provided access for teachers and students to elements of computer science learning for all students in grades Pre-K through 12.
- Implemented new middle school math pathways that provide all students with opportunities to access Algebra 1 by 8th grade.
- Moved the inclusion pilot to all elementary schools for the 2023-24 school year. Visit the Inclusive Schools section of the website to see videos of Inclusion work in action.
- Provided all secondary teachers with access to professional learning on creating an inclusive learning environment by utilizing a Universal Design for Learning framework in content area classrooms.
- Continued our partnership with Center for Educational Leadership to better support principals to focus on instruction that reaches and supports all students to success.
- Career and Technical Education (CTE) program added five different graduation pathways for students.

**The 11th grade scores are low due to a significant number of students that have refused the test over the past four years. For example, in spring of 2024, 66% of 11th graders did not take the test. Of the 761 11th graders that did take the test, 88.4% met standard.
