Academic Success

Academic Success

We believe that every student can learn and achieve at high levels, and it is our responsibility to help each student learn, grow and be challenged. Our commitment to success for every student is rooted in the ideals of opportunity, equity and inclusion.

During the 2022-23 school year, LWSD continued to focus on academic recovery and social-emotional learning for our students.

Some of the efforts for 2022-23 around Academic Success to support students included:

  • Began the adoption of the K-5 social studies curriculum. This included the addition of the “Since Time Immemorial” program.
  • Completed curriculum adoption of new secondary Social Studies instructional resources, including the “Since Time Immemorial” program for middle school and high school students, in partnership with local tribes.
  • Provided all preschool teachers with Blue Bots and computer science materials/training.
  • Provided access for teachers and students to elements of computer science learning for all students in grades Pre-K through 12.
  • Piloted new middle school math pathways that provide all students with opportunities to access Algebra 1 by 8th grade.
  • Continued creating more inclusive schools for students with disabilities. The inclusion pilot took place in 10 elementary schools in the 2022-23 school year. Visit the Inclusive Schools section of the website to see videos of inclusion work in action.
  • Planning continued to move the inclusion pilot to all elementary schools for the 2023-24 school year.
  • Provided all secondary teachers with sustained professional learning on creating an inclusive learning environment by utilizing a Universal Design for Learning framework in content area classrooms.
  • Established a partnership with Center for Educational Leadership to better support principals.
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) program added five different graduation pathways for students.
  • The Washington Network for Innovative Careers (WANIC) program added an aviation and additional nursing pathway for the 2022-23 school year.
  • Implemented Classlink single sign on portal to provide easier access to digital tools students need to be successful in school, provide enhanced security, and streamline data exchanges resulting in higher overall return on investment with district supported software tools.
