Academic Success
We believe that every student can learn and achieve at high levels, and it is our responsibility to help each student learn, grow and be challenged. Our commitment to success for every student is rooted in the ideals of opportunity, equity and inclusion.
The 2021-22 school year was our first fully in-person school year following two school years disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. LWSD put much of its focus on academic recovery and social-emotional learning for our students.
Some of the efforts for 2021-22 around Academic Success to support students included:
- Continued the implementation of new K-5 math curriculum (Integrated Mathematics or IM).
- Utilized new math and literacy screening and progress monitoring assessments in grades K-8.
- Continued planning for the creation of more inclusive schools for students with disabilities. This included partnering with the University of Minnesota TIES Center and the University of Washington Haring Center, and developing professional learning resources in Universal Design for Learning with CAST (a nonprofit education research and development organization that created the Universal Design for Learning framework and UDL Guidelines).

*The 2021 assessment was given in the fall of 2021 and was taken by the students in their next grade level. For example, the fifth-grade test for 2021 was taken by sixth graders in fall 2021.
**The 11th grade scores are low due to a significant number of students that have refused the test over the past four years.
