During a special board meeting on Thursday, April 19, Lake Washington School District’s Board of Directors selected Ray and Associates, a national education search firm, to conduct a broad search and thorough selection process to name LWSD’s next superintendent.
Dr. Traci Pierce serves as Chief Executive Officer. She provides strategic vision, leadership, and direction to Lake Washington School District. Dr. Pierce is a skilled educational leader with 23 years of experience in public education. On July 1, 2012, she became Lake Washington School District’s 11th superintendent.
She leads the district’s strategic efforts to fulfill its mission and vision to graduate Every Student Future Ready. Dr. Pierce believes that, in order to achieve its vision, the district needs to focus on three related learning agendas: student learning, professional learning, and system learning. She focuses on supporting and improving learning at all levels in the organization, as well as accomplishing the goals set forth in the district’s strategic plan.
Dr. Pierce began her career in Lake Washington School District in 1994. She taught Language Arts, Social Studies, and Leadership at Inglewood Junior High. Next, she served as an assistant principal and principal at the junior high level. Dr. Pierce joined the central office administration team in 2005 as the district’s Coordinator of Instructional Technology. She then became the Director of Teaching and Learning. In July 2007, Dr. Pierce was named Chief Schools Officer. She served as Deputy Superintendent, Instructional Services, from July 2010 through June 2012 and was named Superintendent in July 2012.
Dr. Pierce earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and teaching certificate from the University of Washington. She earned a Master of Education degree and principal certification from City University. In 2009, she earned a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and superintendent certification from the University of Washington. Dr. Pierce’s doctoral studies centered on organizational capacity building and systems-level leadership.
