For the fifth year in a row, the College Board named Lake Washington School District (LWSD) to its Annual AP District Honor Roll. LWSD is one of only 373 public school districts in the United States and Canada and one of four in Washington state to be honored. Lake Washington is one of two districts in the state to be a multi-year recipient of the AP Honor Roll Award.

At its December 3 meeting, Lake Washington School District’s (LWSD) Board of Directors passed Resolution No. 2259 to place a Capital Projects Levy on the April 23, 2019 ballot. This measure, if passed, authorizes a six-year levy totaling $120 million or an average of $20 million per year for six years.

    Opportunity and Equity

    We are responsible for the futures of all students. That is true no matter their background, home situation or family resources. We believe that every student can learn and achieve at high levels. Our commitment to success for every student is rooted in the ideals of both equity and excellence. Our district and our schools continue to work toward high achievement for all.

    As part of Lake Washington’s ongoing improvement efforts, the district is working to close achievement and opportunity gaps. Like many districts across the nation, the district’s data shows evidence of achievement and opportunity gaps.

    Achievement gaps refer to any significant, persistent disparities in academic performance between groups of students that differ on income level, race, or program participation.

    Opportunity gaps refer to gaps in access to resources, programs and other opportunities.

    During 2016-17, the district began work with the Puget Sound Educational Service District’s Equity in Education department. This group provided staff professional development for the district. We will also work together to collect and analyze student achievement and perception data.

    A District Equity Team includes teachers, administrators and parents/community members. This group analyzes data. It advises the district on the development of an equity plan to close achievement and opportunity gaps.
