Designation of Attendance Areas:
 

The superintendent shall recommend attendance area configurations to the District's Board of Directors.  Such configurations shall include a statement about the impact on area/s under consideration and will include information such as socio-economic changes, implications for students with disabilities, implications for students receiving English Language services, density, and transportation.

 

Generally, each student in the District is required to attend the school designated for the geographic attendance area in which the student and parent/guardian resides.  Residency is defined in LWSD Administrative Procedure 3110P.

 

The District aims to provide program and ancillary services as close to a student's attendance area school as possible. Parents will receive information about the location of programs or services when these are not located at the neighborhood school.

 

Transfer Between Attendance Areas:
 

The District will establish procedures for the request of a student to attend a school outside of his/her attendance area. This process is considered an attendance area variance request (attendance variance or variance). Attendance variances may be approved by the superintendent or designee following procedure 3131P.

 

Open Enrollment:
 

Each year, during the pre-determined Open Enrollment period, families may apply for a variance to request that their child be allowed to attend a different school within the district. Variance applications will be accepted except when a school has been designated as closed to variances. For schools that are deemed open for variances, first consideration will be given to applications made during the Open Enrollment period. Applications made after the Open Enrollment period will still be considered; priority for such applications shall follow those made during Open Enrollment.
