Tesla STEM - Bhowal and Porwal

Two rising seniors from Nikola Tesla STEM High School (Tesla STEM) used mapping to tackle an important issue for a local endangered species. Siddhant Porwal and Druhin Bhowal brought awareness to the Southern Resident Orca Whale (SROW) population decline through state and national ArcGIS mapping competitions.

    Effective Use of Resources

    In March 2020, Governor Inslee closed all schools in Washington state to in-person instruction. LWSD worked to pivot to a remote learning model for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. Most students started in a remote model for the 2020-21 school year. We were the first district in the Puget Sound region to start in-person learning for our students and provided more in-person learning than any other district in our area in Spring 2021.
