A child hooked on photography is a child who rarely says “There’s nothing to do.” Armed with skills, a digital camera, and of course, fully charged batteries – there’s always something to take a picture of, even here in rainy Seattle.

We’ll delve into the wonders of photography – the building blocks, the basics, creative techniques, and other exciting topics that will leave your child with a more complete understanding of the fundamentals to take great photographs. We’ll also be sneaking in some science and math as it relates to photography while exploring the creative, self-expressive side.

During our 1 hour and 15 minutes together each week, a different topic will be discussed and there will be fun, hands on photographic exercises that will stimulate your child’s creative imagination. There will be a camera for every student to use in class. It’s helpful if they have access to a camera at home as there will be optional weekly activities to further what we learned in class. After each class, your child’s images will be uploaded to a password protected website where you can view them with your child.

There will be an evening reception of the students’ images as well as a possible outside venue. (Per parental permission) These will be optional events but a great way for the students to have others see their work. A collage of 8 - 10 of your child's images is included in the class fee as well as a photography workbook that will be used throughout the class.

By the end of the session, your child will be able to answer “What makes a great photograph work?” They’ll know how to think like a photographer so that they can take great photographs with any camera and have a blast doing it.

Class is taught by Wilder parent, Stacy Riley. She has over 11 years experience teaching the Wilder Art Docent program to all grades. Stacy has been enjoying photography and taking pictures for over 20 years. Additionally she has been a Photography Assistant for Adult workshops held in France, Canada, New England, Atlantla, and the Seattle area. You can view her work at www.stacyrileyphotography.com .
