What is Art Docent?
The Art Docent program encompasses the study of many different artists and techniques. The program strives to provide our students with artistic experiences that they might not find elsewhere. The artists studied range from well-known artists like Monet and Picasso to lesser known artists like Faith Ringgold. Materials used range from familiar, markers and paint to unfamiliar, copper-etching and clay. You don’t need any formal art training to participate in this program.
What is the time commitment for volunteers?
Volunteers attend a 2 hour grade specific training session in September. At this time they will learn about each project and the procedures of the art portable. This is a valuable time to ask questions of other volunteers and meet with the other docents. Typically there is a leader and helpers. There are 6-7 art docent lessons scheduled throughout the school year. Each lesson takes about 2 hours. ½ hour for set-up, 1 hour for the lesson and ½ to clean-up.
Art Docent Leader:
- Attends training session
- Meets with teachers to discuss dates
- OK’s dates with Art Docent coordinator
- Coordinates with art docent helpers in their class
- Review lessons prior to class
