About The PTA

Our Mission…
  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community and place of worship.
  • To raise the standards of home life.
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
  • To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education.

PTA was established as an advocate for our students. PTA’s mission is to “Build a Better World for our Children”. The PTA does this by providing enrichment programs (see our activities and committees!), community events (like our Valentine’s Breakfast and Bingo Night), parenting classes and classroom enrichment.

How does the PTA accomplish all of this? With your help! Thoreau’s PTA raises money to support these programs with our fundraisers, and runs the committees with parent volunteers. Take a look below for more details!

Help raise money for the school!
It’s easy. There are a countless ways to raise money for Thoreau depending on where you bank, where you shop or even if you have old printer cartridges!

Join PTA!
Look for the membership envelope in your child's first day packet, or contact the membership committee chairperson. Check the PTA Home page for the latest incentives for signing up!

Volunteer!
Participate in one of this year’s committees, or help out in your child’s classroom. To be a volunteer at the school you need to fill out a volunteer application, which will only need to be done one time with updates every other year. Our office staff has the forms. When volunteering you will sign in and wear a nametag. The school recommends a photo badge. After your application is approved you can go to the LWSD resource center at Redmond Town Center and have your picture taken. Please contact the office for more information or other questions at 425-823-4350.

Advertise your business!
Local and home businesses are encouraged to advertise in our school directory. These are created once per school year, during September. Contact the Directory committee chair to find out the current year’s deadline for submitting your requests and pricing.

Learn about how you can do volunteer matching or to earn free money for the school!
