Daily and Weekly Schedules

Student Schedules

Monday – Thursday

Approximately 8:15 – 3:00 p.m. (depending on transportation)

Staff Schedules

Monday - Thursday: Approximately 7:00 - 4:00 p.m.; appointments arranged for other days/times

Friday:  Student/parent conferences, staff meetings, community development

Transportation

Provided by district to and from school

Program goal:  When appropriate, students learn to ride public transit (Metro, ACCESS, Sound Transit, taxi, etc.) to and/or from home and the Transition Academy.  Ideally learn to use the form of transportation they will be using at program exit.

No district transportation during the day.   Students walk and/or ride Metro to/from community activities (no school district transportation)

Riding in district or staff vehicle only in emergency situations

Lunch

No district food service

Students bring or purchase lunch in the community

Student Finances

Students are responsible for managing their own finances, including paying for their own activities in the community (Metro, lunch out, shopping, club membership, etc.)

Payment strategies can include cash, checks, gift, debit or credit cards

Recommended Student Supplies

Reduced Fare Metro Permit

Washington State Identification Card

Age appropriate wallet, purse, fanny pack, shoulder/courier bag, soft brief case OR small backpack

Personal care items:  feminine hygiene supplies, tissues/handkerchief, comb, toothbrush, hand sanitizer, etc.

Umbrella and/or rain jacket

Gloves, rubber boots, etc. as appropriate

Emergency supplies in the event of earthquake or other catastrophe:  water, healthy snacks, family pictures, change of clothes, medications for life threatening conditions,  space blanket

Digital watch with alarms

Mobile phone with alarms and preprogrammed numbers

Always looking for donations of classroom consumables:  Tissues, paper towels, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, paper cups/plates, plastic utensils, etc.

Suggested Summer Activities

Get Metro Reduced Fare Metro; practice riding Metro

Get Washington State Identification Card (Department of Licensing)

Get supplies listed above

Complete emergency information forms (attached)

Make connections

  • Reconnect with DDD; assess waiver status
  • Complete DVR Client Information Form
  • Apply for SSI
  • Apply for medical coupons
  • Look for employment
  • Begin to connect or reconnect with family networks
