Stella Schola Middle School students can choose to go snow skiing or snow boarding six times in January and February each year. The program is run by the Stella Schola PTO. For six Wednesdays students are bused up to Snoqualmie Pass where they can choose to sign up for lessons and learn or improve their skills.
Families pay for transportation (about $50 per person for all 6 weeks) and for lessons in they are participating in lessons. Lif tickets are purchased by the family ahead of time or at the pass (season tickets range from $200 - $260 depending on the child's age and how comprehensive the ticket is for ski locations at the pass). Parents who volunteer to chaperone can count the whole 7.5 hours as family service hours.
The bus returns to Stella Schola around 7:30pm, so students have a full afternoon of skiing/boarding! Teachers feel this is a valuable activity and do not give homework on Wednesday afternoons for those six weeks in support of the program.
