LATIN

Foreign Language 615: Latin I (2 semesters required)
Prerequisite:  7th grade

This  challenging course provides 7th graders with a basic introduction to Latin.  It is integrated with the historical studies of ancient Rome to provide a well rounded introduction to Roman culture, life style, and language.  Students learn basic vocabulary, verb conjugation, sentence structure and cases. Both oral conversation and written translation from Latin to English and English to Latin are taught.  Students participate in the National Latin Exam in the spring and have the opportunity to be accepted into the National Latin Honor Society and the end of the 4th quarter.

Foreign Language:  Latin II (2 semesters required)
Prerequisite:  8th grade

Latin II builds on the skills learned in the 7th grade Latin I course.  The intensive course is designed to increase proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Latin. Much of the course is taught exclusively in Latin. Additional vocabulary, grammar, cultural material, and prose from famous Roman authors serves to enhance students' understanding of the Romans.  Students use what they learn to understand today's world better as they realize the influences of Latin in our lives today.  Students participate in the National Latin Exam in the spring.
