Literacy
Details about literacy programs incorporated into the classroom at Rose Hill Elementary.

Ā

Accelerated Reader (AR)
The Accelerated Reader Program (AR) is used in addition to the other reading programs at our school. Students choose an AR book at their reading level, read it and then take an online quiz about the book within a 48 hour period. The student and teacher receive immediate feedback about how the student scored via a printout of the quiz results.

Dibels
The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELSĀ®) are a set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of early literacy skills.  They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills.  In the LWSD, DIBELS is a test used to assess reading proficiency in kindergarten through 2nd grade.

Headsprout
Headsprout helps children master basic academic skills with fun, interactive learning programs. It is designed for especially for grades K-2, and offers:

  • Fun, online interactive lessons
  • "Ready-to-read" printed stories
  • Automatic progress reports
