 Summer Reading Program

  • Seventh Grade Letter
Select a novel at your reading level that you have not previously read. Choose your own except the class novels, "Rules" and "Outsiders" or choose from the list in the letter.
  • Seventh Grade Worksheet
As you read your novel this summer, please complete the following graphic organizer to help you remember details about your book.
  • Eighth Grade Letter
Welcome back to RJH! A few years ago, RJH initiated the practice of requiring all students to participate in summer reading. The purpose of this activity is to expand your knowledge of vocabulary and simply to enjoy reading by engaging with literature.
  • Eighth Grade Worksheet
As you read your novel this summer, please complete the following plotline pyramid to help you remember details about your book.
  • Ninth Grade Letter
You are required to select a book at your reading level that you have not previously read and complete the attached activity, bringing it to your language arts class on September 3rd, 2010. To celebrate your reading accomplishment, you will participate in an in-class activity that is based on the theme of your story.
  • Ninth Grade Worksheet
Please answer these questions as you read your book and type them up. Bring this handout and your typed answers to school with you on Friday, September 3rd, to assist you with a focused novel discussion.
  • Ninth Grade Honors Worksheet
After you finish reading your book, complete ONE of the following assignments. All work should include your book’s title and author, and be typed, double-spaced, and ready for submission to your language arts class on Friday, September 3rd. Be prepared to discuss your book at this time.
  • Summer Reading Study Questions Helper Guide
This is a question to answer after you read the first few chapters. To write down your reaction means to write down your first thoughts of the book. Remember to tell the parts of the book that caused you think your first thoughts or have a reaction.
