Field Trip Attendance All students are required to attend all the regular field trips to be able to attend the end-of-the-year field trips to Canada and Funtasia. Exceptions may include:
- illness,
- family emergency, or
- high school committment.
High School Commitments A high school committment is defined as either:
- a high school test or test review (not quizzes), or
- a high school presentation in which you are actively participating during the time of the field trip.
Non-attendance due to a high school commitment must be accompanied with both:
- a note from the high school teacher prior to the field trip, and
- a note on the permission slip that states the parent understands Northstar campus will be closed for the day and student will be attending only high school classes.
Please Note: Lake Washington High School will excuse students from their classes for any "school-related" activity, including Northstar field trips. The field trips will not count against the ten absence limit. However, because the ski program is a parent-organized and outside of the school day, it does not qualify as a school-related activity. Unexcused Absense If a student misses any field trip for reasons other than the above, he/she must apply to the staff in writing for permission to attend the field trips to Canada and Funtasia.
Field Trip Permission Slips Field Trip permission slips must be turned in
no later than the deadline listed. This is extremely important. It is very hard for our staff to say "No, sorry, it's too late," but transportation is ordered and tickets are bought based on this count.
If the field trip permission slip is not turned in on time, the student will need to stay home the day of the field trip. This is considered an unexcused absence.
If a student misses a field trip, she/he is still eligible to attend the next one, unless it is to Canada or Funtasia (see above).
Chaperoning Parents interested in chaperoning the trip to Canada need to have chaperoned other field trips prior to May. The chaperones for this trip are chosen from those who have been chaperones during the year.
Scholarships Full and partial scholarships are available for field trips due to family hardship.
