Library Curriculum
The curriculum of the library classroom includes the teaching of information literacy and technology skills and the promotion of reading.
 

Library skills and instruction focus on reading appreciation, the research process, and technology.

At the end of each level, students will have had experience with the library skills listed. The lessons taught during Library class will also support the work of students and teachers in all classrooms.

Level 1- Grades Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd

  • Uses proper care with materials.
  • Experience a variety of genres and types of books that support the Lake Washington School District Curriculum Framework.
  • Develop literature appreciation.
  • Receive an introduction to research process.
  • Explore electronic information retrieval systems.
  • Develop awareness of multimedia technology.
  • Understand parts of a book.

Level 2- Grades 3rd, 4th, 5th

  • Understand organizational system of the library.
  • Increase competence and independent use of the Library.
  • Explore a variety of genres and types of books that support the Lake Washington School District Curriculum Framework.
  • Develop literature appreciation.
  • Use the research process.
  • Use electronic retrieval systems to access a variety of information.
  • Become familiar with current multi-media technology and production.
  • Use a variety of informational sources.

Level 3- Grades 6th, 7th, 8th

  • Use Library sources independently.
  • Become familiar with junior high library facility and resources. (7th & 8th grades)
  • Continue to explore a variety of genres and types of books that support the Lake Washington School District Curriculum Framework.
  • Continue to use the research process.
  • Explore a variety of search techniques.
  • Use electronic retrieval systems to access relevant information from a variety of sources.
  • Use increased variety of telecommunication technology.
