With full recognition that to become better readers students must read as much as they can, the John Muir Elementary students, staff and community will attempt to read a million pages during the 2011-2012 school year . Students will track their reading, classrooms will set class goals and weekly tallies will be kept in the library and on our school website. Students will be encouraged to read a variety of books, with a special emphasis on non-fiction books, and reading for information. The school staff will also track their reading and add to the total. There will be incentives for individuals and classes and a celebration when our goal is reached.
Starting September 12, students will have a reading log to keep track of their reading. Every Friday, their pages read (2-6) or read to them (K-1) will be collected and then you can see how we are doing. There is also a BIG counter in our library. Moms and dads, you can help too. Read along with your kids and send in your totals.
Here is the number of pages our students have read. Way to go kids!
June 25th totals are:
3,025,404 pages read WOW! THREE MILLION PAGES READ.
