Enrichment Program
The Horace Mann PTSA sponsors the Enrichment Program to offer before and after school activities to the Horace Mann student community. The PTSA designs and selects the classes to complement and enhance the school curriculum and to provide interesting and engaging activities for our students. Information about classes will be posted here and in the Horace Mann Newsletter. If you have any questions about the Enrichment Program, please contact the Enrichment Coordinator, Juli Rasmussen. When enrolling students in an enrichment class, please note the following:- Registration should be submitted by the deadline indicated. Students will be admitted on a space available basis after this time. Lotteries will be held when classes are oversubscribed. The lottery will be conducted the Monday after the registration deadline. All students that submitted registrations will be contacted with the lottery results.
- Students will not be admitted to class unless payment has been received. Please send a check (one per class) made payable to Horace Mann PTSA to school in an envelope marked "Enrichment". Please write the enrichment class and student name in the "memo" section on the check.
- Teachers and enrichment class instructors do not escort children to enrichment classes. Parents should make sure their child knows where to go upon dismissal from the classroom. Depending on the age of your child, you may wish to send a reminder with your child or a note/email to the classroom teacher.
- You may wish to send a snack with your child to have before class. Children should eat snacks and use the restroom before class. Food is not allowed in the rooms used for Enrichment, therefore, snacks should be eaten in the hall, and trash should be disposed of properly.

Art from Many Hands
From ancient to modern times, people have used a variety of materials in their environment to bring beauty into their lives. This session will allow students to become aware of these fine arts, which are our inheritance as world citizens. Explore, create and discover a variety of cultural arts in this exciting session with Smart with Art! Discover Mexican Indian Yarn Art, design an Australian Aboriginal Painting, create a printmaking project based on a traditional African Adinkra Cloth, explore the art of working with a sumi-paint brush to create Chinese Calligraphy, and create a Mexican Sun with special air dry clay! We continue our journey in multicultural art with Japanese Fish Printing, a unique printmaking experience. Take a trip around the world with Smart with Art as we discover art from many hands!

Aspiring Authors
Using a unique two brain approach in a positive and friendly environment, students are inspired to write and “publish" their own book. This is a fun and challenging eight week adventure where each student will be an author, editor, and artist "hired" by the publishing company to create their masterpieces. As a company, we will assemble and bind the books creating professional results. (Time will be given in class to write and illustrate their books. Professional results, however, require additional homework as each student continues to work to complete a rough draft, edit for a final draft, and illustrate.) Students will learn how to use the elements of story-building to captivate their readers and enhance their illustrations to make their words come alive. Their books will be a treasure to cherish. In a culminating activity, we will have an evening with parents and friends to "Celebrate the Authors", to be held on a date to be determined after Spring Break.
