American Field Service Intercultural Programs USAAFS Intercultural Programs USA (international student exchange):
American Field Service is an international, voluntary, non-governmental, non-profit organization that provides intercultural learning opportunities to help people develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world. AmeriCorpsAmeriCorps (national community service): Full-time members who complete their service earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,350 to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans. Members who serve part-time receive a partial award. Some AmeriCorps members may also receive a modest living allowance during their term of service. AmeriCorps VistaAmeriCorps Vista (national community service): Volunteers in Service to America provides full-time members to nonprofit, faith-based and other community organizations, and public agencies to create and expand programs that ultimately bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty. An "action tank" for national service, City Year seeks to demonstrate, improve and promote the concept of national service as a means for building a stronger democracy. Job CorpsJob Corps (national job training and placement): Job Corps is a free education and training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep a good job. For eligible youth who are at least 16 years of age, meet income guidelines and are a US citizen or legal resident, Job Corps will teach them the skills they need to become employable and independent, and place them in meaningful jobs or further education. Peace CorpsPeace Corps (international community service): Today's Peace Corps is more vital than ever, working in emerging and essential areas such as information technology and business development, and committing more than 1,000 new Volunteers as a part of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Youth For Understanding (YFU) is a non-profit educational organization which offers opportunities for young people around the world to spend a summer, semester or year with a host family in another culture.
