The Accelerated Reader Program (AR) is used in 2nd-5th grades at Lakeview. It is used to supplement our district reading programs. Students choose an AR book, read it, and then take an online quiz about the book within a 48-hour period. Immediate feedback about how the student scored is available online or a printout can be provided.
Because of the generosity of the Lakeview PTSA, we have access to AREnterprise to make reading practice even more effective. This enhanced Accelerated Reader Program provides parents and students a summary of quizzes (including scores) completed at school. Students have access to more than 120,000 quizzes. The “Home Connect” feature allows parents and students to keep track of the student's progress. It also provides an easy search for available quizzes to help in selecting books. Connect from home with your school login. If your student doesn't know the username and password required, please contact his or her teacher.
Books can be checked out from the King County Library System, the Lakeview Library or purchased. In the Lakeview Library, each book is marked with a colored dot on the spine that corresponds to a reading level. The ZPD or reading level for each student is the reading level range recommended by the School Renaissance Institute for the optimal growth in reading without frustration. The ranges are approximate. Success at any level depends on the student's interest, prior knowledge and other factors. If you do not know the appropriate reading level for your student, please contact his or her teacher.
