Bulletin update: We’ve pushed back the 1st paperless kidmail/Bulletin till 10/8. The communications team is doing the data entry of the email addresses entered on your start of year PTSA forms, and should be done soon. If you are getting the Bulletin in email already, that will continue; no old email addresses will be dropped unless we hear from you. If you have not returned your green PTSA Directory and eNews form from the 1st day packet, please get it in ASAP or fill it out online here. If your child came home with a copy of this form in the last week, it means we do not have your information (and while you may get the Bulletin because we have an old email address, your child will not appear in the Student Directory).

If you would would like to continue to receive a paper copy of the Bulletin, please fill out the Electronic Bulletin Opt Out form. If you already filled out the form, you should have received a confirmation note sent home with your child this week.  If you didn’t receive a confirmation, feel free to resubmit the form.

SCHOOL NEWS:

Walk to School Week (WTS) is coming up during the week of October 5 - 9. The week is sponsored by the PTSA to promote safe walking habits and exercise. Check out the recommended routes for walking to Lakeview here.  Next week’s Bulletin will also have some traffic safety tips. If your child walks to school any of the days during WTS week, they can stop by the raffle table at the front of the school to enter their name. The more they walk, the more chances they have to win one of the great prizes in the drawing on Friday. The class that has the most walkers at the end of the week will win an ice cream party!  Bus riders can also enter the raffle by filling out a safety quiz – to be included in next week’s Bulletin.  On Wednesday, Kirkland Firefighters, Kirkland motorcycle police and PedBee will be in front of the school to celebrate with us.  Don’t miss the fun!

State Testing 2010: What’s up with the WASL? State testing info.

Passport Club: The Passport Club geography program is a go for all classes in the school this year. In a few days your child will receive their personal Passport in class (where it will stay). They will also receive the September map to study from at home . The map has 5 lists of locations (level 1-5), and the locations are marked on the map. Your child can pick how many levels to learn, so that he/she can find them on a blank map on Passport Check Day (coming during school hours in early October). Look here for more info next week.

Skate King and Glow bracelets: To help celebrate the 1st Lakeview Skate King night on Thursday, Oct 8th, the 6th graders will be selling non-toxic Glow bracelets for $1 at school. They will be on sale on Wed., Oct 7 at lunch recess and on Thur, Oct. 8  at last recess. The packages should NOT be opened at school. If you’re coming to Skate King, save them up to glow there!  Also a reminder that kids need a permission slip to come to Skate King.  Both Skate King and the bracelets are fundraisers for the 6th grade OPI trip.

Summer Reading Postcards: We missed a few students last week.  They are: Jonah Kern, Sebastian Pederson, Ella Geels, and Alex Elder. All the students who participated were invited for cake with Mrs Hughes yesterday, and they received a certificate.

Lakeview Leadership Team: We are thrilled to announce that over 70 students applied and were accepted to participate in the Lakeview Leadership and Safety Patrol Teams!  There are two classroom representatives  from each class in grades 4, 5, and 6 and four squads of safety patrol members.  Safety Patrol members are responsible for helping with student and traffic safety before and after school.  The leadership team will help with school and community events throughout the year including: spirit days, family movie night, local and global service projects.  Our first spirit day is coming up this Wednesday, September 30 and the theme will be “Lakeview Leopards Spirit.”  We look forward to these students bringing their wonderful leadership skills and talents to our school!                  Sincerely, Mrs. Teigen Brackett and Mrs. Knight

School TShirts: Tshirts can still be ordered by using the form from the 1st day packet, or by sending in a check to the Lakeview PTSA for $14 per Tshirt with the following info:  Size: Youth S(4-6) Youth M(6-8) Youth L (10-12) or Youth XL (14-16) or Men’s S, M, L, XL or Women’s VNeck S, M, L or XL; your name, and your child’s name and teacher.

Room parents are still needed for the classrooms below. Room parents act as a liaison between the PTSA and the other parents in the classroom. The teacher may ask for help coordinating classroom activities. You will receive a list of parent emails for the class from the PTSA. You will also work with the Staff Appreciation committee to prepare (with help from the class) for Teacher Appreciation Week.  If you can help, just email the teacher and make their day!
