Field Trip Goals
- To inspire a positive attitude in our kids by challenging them with attainable goals and by exposing them to legitimate means of achieving them.
- To provide our students with opportunities that channel their energies into efforts that benefit themselves, their school and communities.
- To increase students’ sense of personal confidence.
- To provide many opportunities for students to solve progressively complex problems in a positive learning environment.
- To develop an increased familiarity and identification with the natural world.
- To increase mutual support within a team.
The Experience
Challenges Northwest is an adventure based experiential learning model which allows students the opportunity to learn by doing. Students are immersed in outdoor activities where they are called upon to work together, solve progressively complex problems in a positive learning environment, while increasing mutual support and self confidence within a team. A team of experienced Challenges Northwest staff lead each of our groups throughout the day on these challenges, as well as grade level teachers. While there are many opportunities for growth for each student, participants always have the choice to not participate in a group challenge they do not wish to try. The surrounding forest and a wonderful log cabin is the perfect setting for combining outdoor and indoor adventure.

This trip will require charter buses due to the times we will be at CNW. Students will be required to be at school by 7:45 am on their assigned day, as we will be leaving by 8:00 am. Our program begins at 9:00 am, so this allows us the time we will need to get to the Snoqualmie area. We will be returning to school by 3:15 pm that day, so regular dismissal time.
A list of items kids will need to bring to stay comfortable is available here. Basically, clothes to keep kids warm, raingear and good shoes to walk around in are all that is required. Students must pack a lunch, snacks and water bottle in a backpack to carry around all day as well.
This field trip is an old Lakeview tradition that is now being brought back and we are thrilled to participate in it again. If you’d like to find out more about Challenges Northwest, please check out their site.
