 Storage of Medication for Emergency/Disaster

Each school has an emergency/disaster plan in effect. Part of this plan includes provisions for the storage of medication needed to treat a student with a life threatening condition. To clarify, a life threatening condition means "a health condition that will put the child in danger of death during the school day if a medication or treatment order and a nursing plan is not in place." The following conditions are considered life threatening by Lake Washington School District:

  1. Seizure disorder
  2. Cardiac condition
  3. Insulin dependent diabetes
  4. Sever asthma
  5. Allergic reactions requiring the use of an Epipen

If you need to contact the school nurse, the following items and information need to be addressed.

  1. Doctor's orders specific for 48 to 72 hours of treatment and /or medication that would be needed.
  2. Appropriate medication in a correctly labeled pharmacy container.
  3. Any other necessary paperwork or supplies agreed upon by parent and school nurse.
