 Important Information Regarding Attendance

Absences:

All absences should be called in to the office at 425-823-6750 within 48 hours of the absence. Any absence called in after that will not be excused, but the information will be filed in the student's attendance folder. After three unexcused absences the student and parent/gaurdian will be reported to our BECCA specialist and consequences such as mandatory truancy workshops and/or court apperance will take place as necessary.

Late Arrival:

When a student arrives late, they should check in with the Attendance Office to let us know they are here and to get a pass to class. The tardy should be called in by a parent or guardian within the 48-hour window. Tardiness will be tracked by teachers each period. An unexcused tardy may result in lunch detentions, after-school detention, and/or Friday School. When a student comes in late for first period they must check in with the Attendance Office. The student must have a note or the parent/guardian must call the Attendance Office to excuse the tardy.

Tardy Consequences:

Chronic tardiness is a disruption to the educational process. We expect all students to be in all of their classes on time. Excesssive tardiness will result in school discipline. Possible consequences may include lunch duty, lunch detention, after school detention, Friday School and suspension.

Illness:

If your student becomes ill during the school day, they must check out through the health room and the Attendance Office so we can contact a parent/guardian before the student leaves campus. No student will be released from school without prior contact with a parent/guardian. Any handwritten notes with a questionable signature will be verified or a parent/guardian will be called to verify the absence. The absenc will remain unexcused until we hear back from the parent/guardian. This also applies to any questionalbe phone excuses.

Leaving during the school day:

Kamiakin, like all other junior highs in our district, has a closed campus. This means that students are not permitted to leave school at any time during the day without a pass from the office. If you must leave the building because of illness or any other emergency, you must check out at the attendance/ISS office. When you return to school, you must sign in at the same office. Closed campus also means that once you have arrived at school in the morning you may not leave, even if school has not yet started. For appointments during the day, students must bring a note from a parent/guardian prior to the start of the day to recieve an early dismissal pass from the Attendance Office.

Early Dismissal:

When your student needs to leave early during the school day due to an appointment, they should bring a written note to the Attendance Office before school starts to receive an early dismissal form.

Acceptable reasons for excused absences are:

  • Personal injury/illness
  • Prearranged absence
  • Family emergency (bereavement, etc.)
  • Medical appointments
  • Religious holidays

The following are some examples of unexcused absences per the policy:

  • Student or parent oversleeping
  • Student missing the bus
  • Student needed for babysitting
  • Student job requirements
  • Weather conditions/school time changes that were announced

Any handwritten notes with a questionable signature will be verified or a parent/guardian will be called to verify the absence. The absence will remain unexcused until we hear back from the parent/guardian. This also applies to any questionable phone excuses.

Homework:

After a student has missed three consecutive days due to illness, a parent may call and request homework. The work may be picked up from the main office. Please remember that you may also check the SchoolNotes.com website for assignments for many teachers.
