HONOR SOCIETY NEWS:

Hello Honor Society members and parents!  It has been a great year with a lot of community service and good grades being maintained.  Our initiation is coming up on May 22nd, 7:00 pm, in Kamiakin's cafeteria.  It will be a great event with guest speakers, awards, and food.  Another important date is June 22nd.  This is the day of our field trip to the Woodland Park Zoo, the Ballard Locks, and Golden Gardens.  Both should be fun and memorable.     -  Honor Society Executive Board

  • Don't forget that your third quarter service hours are due April 13, 2012 and that is also when grade checks happen so be sure to have good grades to stay eligible.
  • We still need help with the gardens if you need service hours.
  • Fees were due before spring break so get them in ASAP!!
  • We have some important dates coming up.  On May 22nd we have our official NHS initiation and on June 22nd we have our field trip (no idea is set in stone and officially decided).

FOOD DRIVE:

This year, at Kamiakin Jr. High, we had our annual Food Drive from February 27th to March 9th.  Just before the Food Drive started, we had our door-decorating contest as well, to prepare the students and teachers for the upcoming Food Drive.  The theme of the door-decorating contest this year was desserts.  There were many different desserts on each door of each class.  The winning door this year was by Ms. Alioto's  homeroom.  Her homeroom's dessert was cupcakes.  Second place was Ms. McCarter's homeroom.  Her homerooom's dessert was chocolate mousse.  Third place was Mr. Egger's homeroom.  His homeroom's dessert was shaved ice/snow cones.  The prize for winning was delicious donuts for the homeroom!

The Food Drive started after the door-decorating contest ended.  We started on February 27th.  The first day of the Food Drive wasn't the best, but as the days went by, we got more and more food.  Within the first week of the Food Drive, we collected over 1,000 pounds of food!  The original date to end the Food Drive was March 5th, but we didn't quite make our goal by then, so we extended the date to the 9th.  In the end, we raised a total of 2,511 pounds of food, which was only 500 pounds off from our goal of 3,000 pounds.  We had prizes for the homerooms that brought in the most weight and the most amounts of items.  The homeroom that brought in most weight and the most amount of items was Mr. Egger's homeroom.  His homeroom was responsible for bringing in more than a fourth of the food that we collected.  There was also a prize for bringing in the most weight and the most amount of items; the prize was a pizza party!

Overall, we had a great few weeks doing both the door decoratiang and the Food Drive.  The people responsible for bringing all this together and making it happen was the Food Drive committee, consisting of Will Gear, Madison Hedlund, Kevin Ho, Nick Teoh, and Jacob Reim.  Everyone worked hard this year for the Food Drive; from the Food Drive committee to the students, teachers, etc.  Thank you so much for your help and support!!!!

NHS FEES:
The $25.00 fee must be paid by March 20th
