This is my third year at Kamiakin Junior High as a math and science teacher. I strongly believe a child's engagement and enjoyment in a lesson or class has a direct correlation with their success and thus mastery of the course. I have come to this belief as both an educator and a life-long learner.
As a young child, my family moved frequently to a variety of locales such as the Philippines, Maryland, and Virginia. My family settled in Springfield, Oregon in time for me to start elementary school. I thoroughly enjoyed my childhood. I was constantly at play--whether it be catching tadpoles, playing school or store, or participating in any sport I could. I realized I wanted to be a teacher in high school after being a camp counselor during the summers.
I graduated from the University of Oregon (Go DUCKS!), receiving a Bachelor's degree in General Science with minors in Biology and Geology and a Master's degree in Middle/Secondary Education with an emphasis in Science & Mathematics. I taught my first two years in Durham, North Carolina through the Teach For America program. My husband and I have settle back in the Pacific Northwest, calling Kirkland home.
