This is my second year at Kamiakin Junior High and I'm pleased to report our choir grew 30% since last year! I taught choir for 12 years at Kirkland JH until 1999, taking bits of time off in between to have three children. Over the last six years, I've substitute-taught in Northshore and Lake Washington School Districts.
I grew up in Corvallis, Oregon (Go, Beavs!), steeped in the Hawaiian culture as my parents were from Hawaii and advisors of OSU’s Hawaii Club. I sang in two jazz choirs at Southern Oregon [University] and have my master’s degree in Music Education from Western Oregon [University].
Although I love the creative energy of junior high students, I fill out my schedule with one choir at Finn Hill and two choirs at Juanita High. I play the piano and guitar and write songs. I was a Dickens Caroler for three seasons – you may have seen me in the Downtown Seattle Association commercials during the holiday season. I live in Kenmore with my family and I love teaching. Imagine getting paid to share the gift of music!
If you'd like to contact me, it's easiest to reach me by e-mail, or at Juanita High School's Music Office (425) 823-7623 between 11 am and 1 pm.
