I teach French and Spanish at Kamiakin and Lake WA High School. You can reach me by email at rchumbook@lwsd.org or leave a message at either school and I will reply as soon as possible.
For the better part of my life (always the better part!), I have been a teacher. I have taught French, Spanish, English, and paper arts for over 20 years. I was born in France, my father was French, and my mother taught French and Spanish. I received my B.A. in French and Spanish teacher education from the University of Houston and my M.A. in French literature from U.C.L.A.
I taught French, Spanish and English for 11 years to students from 6th grade through high school at two top independent schools in Southern California. I have taken three student groups to Europe and have visited France and Mexico several times on my own. Before I came to Kamiakin, I taught French for three years at a fine public middle school in Tucson, Arizona.
This is my fourth year at Kamiakin and I love teaching here. The students continue to amaze me with their zest for life, motivation to succeed, and desire to learn. For the past three years, I’ve entered my students in national contests and exams in French and Spanish. Each year, they have come away with national honors.
In my spare time, I do freelance writing for paper arts magazines and tutor students in French and Spanish. I love to take long walks, work out, read, cook, and I do paper arts whenever I can. I feel blessed to have close friends and 17 family members nearby. I also love to dote on my grandchild Brynne who turns two in April. In between visits to VA (soon to be IL – only half-way across the country), my daughter Heather keeps me up to date by sending videos and sharing webcam “chats”.
