Gary Moed - Principal
Gary Moed grew up in New York City and moved to Washington in 1993. He graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Mathematics. Gary worked as a Mathematics teacher and Assistant Principal in New York City prior to his move to the Seattle area. Gary also holds an M.A. in Education from the City University of New York.
Gary’s philosophy of education centers on critical thinking and post-secondary education preparation for all students. He also believes that a school should function as a single community.
Tim Hupperten - Associate Principal
Tim Hupperten graduated from Central Washington University with a B.A. in English and Special Education. He started his teaching career in the Highline School District where he worked as a Special Education teacher at Sylvester Middle School. After two years, Mr. Hupperten moved to Highline High School where he spent one year teaching students with special needs and five years teaching English. While at Highline, Tim worked collaboratively with colleagues and administrators to forward building and district initiatives designed to improve student achievement. In addition, he coached football, girls basketball and girls fast pitch softball. In 2004, Mr. Hupperten earned his Masters degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Puget Sound. He currently serves as a member of the Professional Education Advisory Board for the Counseling Department at UPS.
Gloria Heier - Associate Principal
A native of the Dearborn, Michigan, Gloria Heier earned a B. A. from the University of Michigan with a major in mathematics and minors in psychology and physics. She began teaching 8th and 9th grade mathematics at West Maple Junior High School in Birmingham, Michigan – a school committed to integrated, thematically organized curriculum. After moving to Washington, she taught mathematics at Kamiakin Junior High for three years and then transferred to Juanita High School where she has been a Mathematics Teacher, Department Chairperson, Teacher on Special Assignment and LWSD Staff Developer with an emphasis on Mathematics. After earning her Masters in Educational Leadership from City University, she completed her administrative internship under Jane Todd at Juanita High School. She feels fortunate to have been working as Assistant/Associate Principal of Juanita High School since 2005.
Mrs. Heier enjoys providing support for the growth and success of all members of the Juanita community. She believes the high school experience should include opportunities to explore and expand student strengths while improving areas of weakness.
Married with two adult children, Mrs. Heier’s oldest son, Jeff, is married with a son Alec and lives in Bellevue. Her youngest, Tom, is currently working towards his Masters degree in Chemistry at the University of Washington in preparation for a teaching position at the Air Force Academy.
To unwind, Mrs. Heier enjoys spending lazy days in Chelan, Washington – water skiing, gardening, and entertaining friends.
