 The Big6 Research Strategy

 

 

Use the steps in the Big Six to plan your research strategy.

Try talking about your project with many people. As you verbalize the project your task definition will become clearer. Recognize the importance of step 6. Evaluating the project and the process you used can help you in future projects.

The Big6—Information Skills for Student Achievement

1.        Task Definition                                                                                       
a.        Define the task
b.        Identify the needed information

2.        Information Seeking
a.        Brainstorm all possible sources

3.        Location and access
a.        Locate sources
b.        Find information within sources

4.        Use of information
a.        Take notes, draw pictures, record interviews (taking care to give proper  
       credit to sources)

5.        Synthesis
a.        Write the paper or create the final product (give credit to sources)

6.        Evaluation
a.        Judge the product AND the process
