Reflections 2009-2010 Theme is " Beauty is...."

It is time again for Reflections. This year the theme is " Beauty is...."  This is a great opportunity for students to express their creative talents in Art, Music, Photography, Literature, Film and Choreography.
We are able to forward pieces to Lake Washington School District to be judged against other schools in our District in January.  In past years, our school had several winners at the district and state levels.  This year, nationals!?
Submission forms and rules for area of interest are available in the Humanities and Art classrooms as well as the Office.   They are also available online at: http://www.wastatepta.org/programs/reflections/forms.html

Projects will be due by Monday, November 2nd. Please turn projects into the Conference Room in the Main ICS Office with the necessary forms attached. We are looking forward to seeing the students’ creativity shine again!

"Pass it On" -- Tell Your Students

Do you know any young and aspiring inventors in the making?  If so, please join the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Pacific Northwest Section and the University of Washington student section as they host the “Scary” Invention Competition.

SWE is a not-for-profit educational and service organization that empowers women to succeed and advance in the field of engineering, and to be recognized for their life-changing contributions as engineers and leaders.

The Scary Invention Competition is intended to give all students the opportunity to create something to help other people overcome their fear of something. Please review the rules and judging criteria for more information. Engineering is often viewed as just math and science – a nerdy field sitting at a desk or computer. Engineering is a career that creates things to help people and society.

This competition is open to all students (girls and boys), grades K-12. The competition will take place at the University of Washington on October 31, 2009 from 10am-12 noon.  The building location and parking directions will be provided later.

For those that would like to participate, please submit the name, age, grade, school name, teacher or counselor and the name of the invention at the online registration http://sites.google.com/site/scaryinventioncompeitionsignup/ by October 27, 2009.

 NHS Offers Drop-in Tutors

In order to help our fellow ICSers, NHS has decided to come up with our very own Drop In Tutors! These volunteers will spend their lunch time and an hour after school every day of the week in Mr. Heil's room for any students that might need some homework help. Students can see the name of the tutor of the day and what subject they specialize in posted on a sheet in front of Mr. Heil's room. There the students can also sign up for certain times so that the tutors can be prepared, but more students are always welcome, even if the slot is filled. The schedule is subject to change as it depends on the popularity of the different time periods.

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact Roxana Rautu (
s-rrautu@lwsd.org), Charlotte Abrams (s-cabrams@lwsd.org) or Ben Huth (s-bhuth@lwsd.org, benhuth@gmail.com).
