What Does ICS NHS Do?
The National Honor Society at ICS is a club that focuses on service to the community. Members of the ICS NHS participate in numerous individual service projects as well as two required community service projects that we complete as a group. Over the past few years, the ICS NHS has expanded to take on volunteer projects at ICS itself like the Martin Luther King Jr. Assembly, a Drop-In Tutor Program and Charity Movie Nights. This year, we hope to continue building upon NHS’ existing role to help strengthen our community and nurture our leaders.
Our Goals for 2009 – 2010
· Involvement of all Members
· Recognition of Achievement
· Diverse Service Activities
· Organization and Coordination
NHS Meetings
NHS meetings will take place in Mr. Heil’s Room (Room 137) on the first Friday of every month during lunch. For those of you who attend classes off campus and leave during lunch, we hope that you will be able to make the first few minutes of every meeting so that we can distribute any important information.
NHS Fees and Dues
As you might know, each student is required to pay $10.00 to the NHS for fees and dues. These fees are to be submitted to the Treasurer (Laura Renfroe) by the October 30th NHS Meeting.
This year, we will be keeping an NHS Dues Box in the Office, where students can drop off checks made out to ICS at any time. Our Treasurer will check the box once a week to collect all of the fees. Please enclose your check or cash in an envelope with your name on it!

In order to help our fellow ICSers, NHS has decided to come up with our very own Drop In Tutors! These volunteers will spend their lunch time and an hour after school every day of the week in Mr. Heil's room for any students that might need some homework help. Students can see the name of the tutor of the day and what subject they specialize in posted on a sheet in front of Mr. Heil's room. There the students can also sign up for certain times so that the tutors can be prepared, but more students are always welcome, even if the slot is filled. The schedule is subject to change as it depends on the popularity of the different time periods.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact Roxana Rautu (s-rrautu@lwsd.org), Charlotte Abrams (s-cabrams@lwsd.org) or Kavya Vaghul (s-kvaghul@lwsd.org).
