National History Day (NHD)

"History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are."
                                                               --David McCullough

Every 8th grade student at ICS participates in National History Day. Students learn firsthand the value of studying one subject in great depth. Impressive research and meticulous documentation becomes transformed into a dazzling display of skills mastery and learning. Award-winning ICS topics have included Henry VIII's court, the Lowell Mill Girls, the obscenity trial of Allen Ginsberg, the colonization of the Congo, the Tonkin Gulf Incident, and many others. Students learn the benefits of individual research and group participation.

Yesterday ICS brought home the gold at National History Day as Jessica Jin and Anastasiya Kirichuk took first place in the nation in their category, Senior Group Web Site.  These extraordinary young ladies combined their interests in science and history as they explored the reclamation of the Elwha river in Washington State as their topic.  Do take a look at their professional web work at    http://99084313.nhd.weebly.com

Their hard work and winning personalities were on display before the country this past week and I cannot imagine two finer ambassadors for our school.   Also taking home top honors were Rachel Roberts and Aishwarya Nirmal who took fourth in the nation in their performance category and Mia Richards who was sixth overall for her Exhibit.  All who competed at the University of Maryland had an exhilarating week.
