The Reflections program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to creatively express themselves through their own original works of art created around a specific theme. This year’s theme is “Diversity Means…”
Congratulations to the 24 students who submitted original pieces of art for this year’s Reflections. These students showed an amazing amount of talent.
Fourteen entries advanced to the next level of judging (LWSD Council). Everyone is invited to a special reception on January 6th at Lake Washington Resource Center to view all entries from the schools in our district.
The theme for next year is “The Magic of a Moment.”
Who can participate?
Students from Kindergarten to 6th grade are invited to participate. During the judging portion, works are critiqued against others in the same grade division. There are 3 grade divisions:
- Primary – preschool through 2nd grade
- Intermediate – 3rd through 5th grade
- Middle/Junior – 6th grade
What do I, the student, do?
· Decide what the theme means to you and communicate that through art.
· Arts categories: Visual Arts, Literature, Photography, Choreography/Dance, Music Composition and Film Production
· Entries are created outside of school work.
· All artwork must be the ORIGINAL work of the student.
Can I make it any size and shape?
Because there are so many entries from across the country, there are specific size guidelines on all of the entry types. A copy of these guidelines can be found in the front office or online at http://www.wastatepta.org/programs/reflections/forms.html.
Do I need consent from individuals appearing in my Reflections entry?
Yes. If a child or adult's recognizable image or voice is included in an entry (e.g., in a film, photograph or musical composition) then that individual or individuals must complete a Consent Form (available in the office). The Consent Form will accompany the student's entry.
Do I need to fill out all the information on the Student Entry Form?
Yes, you do! In order to be considered in the judging portion, you have to have it all filled out. It is very important to give your work a title and complete the Required Artist Statement. These are no longer optional. Please have your parent/legal guardian sign the form, too. STUDENT ENTRY FORM available in the office only.
How will my participation be recognized?
Your artwork will be displayed in the school for a day and evening in November. You and your family will be invited to a special showing on that date. Your artwork will go through a judging process and some entries will advance to the district competition.
When is it due?
Entries are due to the office on Wednesday, October 26th by 3:30pm.
