Welcome to Franklin’s super fit Physical Education Program! Ms. Nancy Denney is our fulltime, P.E. teacher. She comes to school with unlimited enthusiasm to promote physical fitness to our kindergarten through sixth grade students. No special uniform is required, but appropriate clothes and supportive, closed heel/toed tennis shoes are required on P.E. days. Mrs. Shelby Weigand will be joining the Franklin staff again this year as an itinerant physical education teacher for Mrs. Shelley’s Kindergarten class.
Franklin Elementary has a dedicated sports gym which includes a traversing wall. Our goal is to have fun and stay fit the entire year by exploring various physical activities.
Our main objectives for students are:
-
Learning skills for lifetime physical activity participation
-
Maintain/improve on personal fitness levels
-
To enjoy and have fun while participating in physical movement
-
Meeting LWSD and state physical education standards.
We believe all students can and will behave appropriately in the gym classroom. Some tasks may be challenging, but if students follow the “SPORT” program; Safety, Participation, Obeys Rules, Respect, Teamwork and has few absences they will succeed in the Franklin Physical Education program. The PE classroom is one in which students can be creative, expressive and adventurous all within the realms of a safe and encouraging atmosphere. Natural consequences in the gym will include verbal warnings followed by reflection bench time and filling out a “Making It Right Plan” or “PE Oops Slip”. If your child’s activities are to be limited for a medical reason, please send a note or email of explanation including the dates of elimination. Students are assessed based on their behavior, effort and participation in class.
