This year your child will learn a variety of musical skills. We will focus on the five main components of music which are Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Timbre, and Form. In music class we use multiple modalities to discover musical content as well as incorporate a multi-arts approach that involves dance, drama and visual arts. We learn through a variety of activities, songs, instruments, games, and projects. In music we are always prepared, respectful, and responsible. Each class has already discussed what these terms look like and together we strive to maintain a positive learning environment. The music classroom is one in which students can be creative, expressive and adventurous all within the realms of a safe and encouraging atmosphere. Every grade level will do some type of performance, whether it is part of an assembly, an outside event or a class presentation. Children are assessed based on their behavior, effort and participation in class. There are other opportunities for your child to get involved with music outside regular classroom time.
LWSD just announced (April 2012) that in the fall of 2012, students can begin either Orchestra or Band as early as fourth grade. Both programs will continue to be offered in a before-school format. Choir
Open to 4th - 6th graders. Meets every Tuesday at 3:45-4:45. Rehearsals will start on 27 September 2011. The concert will be on December 8th. Contact Shawna Locey with questions.
Beginning Band
