News February 2017:
Evergreen Musicians at Junior All-State Band, February 18, 2017
Congratulations to two Evergreen musicians, who performed at the Washington Music Educators' Association State (WMEA) conference over Presidents' Day weekend in Bellevue.

Junior All-State Bands: Ethan Fang (8th grade, Horn); Izzy Kwoka (8th grade, Trombone)

Each year, thousands of Band, Choir, and Orchestra Middle School Musicians from across Washington audition for a place in the All-State ensembles for Middle School Students (Junior All-State is mostly 8th graders, although some 7th graders qualify).
The audition process is a rigorous recording session of composed exercises demonstrating skill, musicianship, and understanding. The recordings are then ranked and a very select percentage "win" a position in the Bands, Choir, or Orchestra. They then come together (this year in Yakima) for day of intense rehearsal under a highly acclaimed conductor, and perform a final concert at 4 PM.
All the groups tackle music that's usually at a higher level of difficulty that they normally can achieve in their respective school groups. It's a chance for excelling Musicians to really challenge themselves.
