CHOIR: This course is an elective vocal music course for junior high school students desiring to sing, develop a musical vocabulary, and perform both in and out of the school community. The goal of this course is to teach students to become better and more confident singers and to develop an appreciation for vocal music as well as gain mastery of musical concepts.

ELEMENTARY INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM CHANGES FOR 2012-13. Currently, our district provides elementary students the opportunity to participate in instrumental music programs before the start of the elementary school day. For the most part, elementary students travel to their neighborhood junior or senior high feeder school for instrumental music and are bused back to their elementary schools. With reconfiguration to middle schools this fall, we will continue to offer a before school instrumental music program for elementary students. However, 6th graders will no longer participate in the before school program, as they will have music electives available during their middle school day.
We are making a change in our instrumental music program to increase opportunities for elementary students to participate. Under current practice, students could begin Orchestra as early as 4th grade and begin Band as early as 5th grade. Starting in the coming school year, in the fall of 2012, students can begin either Orchestra or Band as early as 4th grade. Both programs will continue to be offered in a before-school format.
