This year, local author and story teller Dr. Margaret Read MacDonald, visited Blackwell accompanied by folk musician Richard Scholtz. Margaret and Richard presented two assemblies to the whole school, worked with individual classrooms, and taught students to perform stories to other students. There was also a Family Event so students could perform and participate with family members.  Margaret also signed books afterwards.

Other authors who have visited Blackwell recently include Janet Lee Carey, Tom Brenner, Lee Fodi, Ben Mikaelson, Amanda Lumry and Nina Laden.
